The house was built by George Stickney in 1836 and has no corners. Stickney was a strong believer in Spiritualism. It is thought that his intention was to allow the spirits of his deceased children to roam freely about the house without getting stuck in any corners. When Stickney built the house 7 of his 10 children had passed. The Stickney family had regular séances to communicate with the children who were no longer with them.

In what seems like juxtaposition, today the Stickney House is the headquarters of the Bull Valley Police Department and Village offices. Over the years, residents and visitors to Bull Valley report unexplained and unusual events associated with the Stickney House. The home is also included in the National Register of Historic Places.
